Origins of Stone Farm

There are early records relating to the origins of Stone Farm that date back to a survey completed in 1606, when the land was owned by Mr. William Thruppe. Indeed, the field where the lodges are situated still retains this name. It is not known when Stone Farm fell into the hands of my Great Grandad, but we do know that it was he who dug out the beautiful lakes in order to irrigate his vegetables and blackcurrants. The lakes themselves are built on a natural watercourse with the stream continuing through a woodland area, leading to the old remnants of a mill – Pig Mill, which we believe may have been used by the church in order to feed the Parish of Ombersley.

As the farming industry changed, Stone Farm proved difficult to farm with large modern machinery. To that end, back in 2008, my Father decided to convert the traditional farm barns into beautiful accommodation and to fully renovate the main farmhouse. Then as a committed conservationist, he also planted over 16,000 trees in order to invite more wildlife to the area, making Stone Farm an incredibly peaceful and serene place to be and live.

Stone Farm today

After heading half way across the world to study Tourism and Event Management in Australia, I returned home with an urge to expand the family farming business and explore a new and exciting opportunity. I wanted to create an environment where people can visit, relax and take time out from their normal day to day lives and where better then to do this than at Stone Farm.

I really do hope that you enjoy staying with us!
